9.7.25 - FORGOT MY GLASSES

SUNDAY 9.7.25

KCMO

Dear far-sighted fauntleroys, near-sighted nancies, and wall-eyed weightlifters,

I’m out front of Crow Coffee at 51st and Oak today, after a trip to the Plaza library to return some stuff. I’m writing real big because I forgot my glasses. Coffee at 4:00 on a Sunday is a little late but as long as I get some exercise this evening I’ll sleep fine.

We bopped over to Jeff City to see family yesterday, and also swung by Sedalia on the way back to say hi to Jake Hill. I got a good music rec, Wardruna, Nordic music often heard on the show Vikings. Excellent to see Jake.

At the library I got a Wu Tang anthology, a Penderecki symphony, a recent Neil Young and Crazy Horse record, and a couple other things. Libraries are some of my favorite places on earth, especially the KC Plaza library with its unique floorplan and massive windows.

I was driven out of Crow by annoying helicopter parents who twice started the punitive countdown routine with their energetic kid. “One…two...three…” Now they are coming outside to over-negotiate the load into the SUV. I’m not a parent so it’s easy for me to criticize.

We stopped in Columbia on the way to Jeff City yesterday and hit Skylark books. I got a spooky book for Shocktober and Cleo got something by her current favorite author, John Boyne. We skipped Hitt Records this time. Between Bandcamp Friday and the Husker Du box set I ordered, my budget (what budget?) for music is zapped.

Well, writing without glasses is one way to write BIGGER but not necessarily neater.
