9.28.25 - RAT BAIT BLUES
SUNDAY 9.28.25
KCMO
Dear Sanka Sad-Sacks, Decaf Drifters, and Kuerig Melancholics,
I am drinking reheated coffee from yesterday, not the greatest, but beats low brain activity. Yesterday started with a trip to a new dog groomer. Pablo looked pretty much the same, and for $60 plus tip, that’s not the customer experience he was looking for. It was also $15 more than last time.
While I waited I went to Jiffy Lube, and to Tru-Valu for a rodent bait station. Rats under our new shed platform is not what the missus had in mind. I don’t like killing rats, I’d rather have a cooperative relationship with them.
After that I had coffee at The Filling Station and finished Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project. I’m glad I read it, much food for thought. I sat next to a guy who looked eerily like an elderly Mark E Smith. He was frail and navigated the steps on the Filling Station deck carefully, while two teenage girls gave him space. I said hello, but he was in his own world.
After coffee I ducked into Half-Price Books and found a John Boyne novel for Tracy and a cool box set of Latin soul on the Fania label. 4 cds, a 7”, and an essay in a book- format package that’s colorful and nicely designed. Artists like Willie Colon & Joe Bataan. After having Kid Congo Arana Es La Vida playing in the car all week, it was a perfect complementary find, and only $20 new.
I’ll be spinning some records on 12.6.25 a miniBAR. Looking forward to this!
