9.26.25 - FRITTERING
Saturday 9.26.25
KCMO
Dear schnitzel champions, tonkatsu defenders, and anyone who likes a thin deep-fried fritter regardless of country of origin,
I’ve had a couple of solid food truck ideas—Gorilla Cheese, a grilled cheese cart featuring a guy in a gorilla suit for the grand opening. Also Schnitzel Vs Tonkatsu—German and Japanese tenderloins on the axis of deliciousness.
I had the tonkatsu from Kobe Q last night after we played at recordBAR for their 20-year celebration. Uhm, I also had wings. I am a big fan of Kobi Q. V2 at Pho Nguyen and Garlic Mama Chicken from Kobe Q are two of my favorite KC dishes.
In my weight loss efforts I plateaued at 232 for some time and now I’m settled at 226, which is apparently my baseline adult weight based on my SOP. Hence I’m writing about grilled cheese and schnitzel, some kind of exposure therapy.
I got to see Rex Hobart, Delazers, and the Bad Ideas last night, too. All the times we’ve worked with Clarence at miniBAR, I’ve never seen him do his thing with Delazers, and it was so cool. The lineup I caught was country gold, hip hop, and hardcore—that’s the way to do ANY bill, in a perfect world.
THE DELAZERS
THE BAD IDEAS
Yesterday’s listening included Mekons Deserted, Tex Perkins and The Fat Rubber Band, and a couple of comps from the Glitterbeat label. All on Bandcamp.
Today is Pablo’s grooming day, at Picasso, near what will be the new Black Hole Bakery. Our old sweet boy is about 15, a master napper and high stakes treat negotiator.
