9.14.25 - CAN DO, CAN DO

Dear voles, moles, and those arguing online with a-holes,
I have a little wire stand on my desk, don’t know what it was originally for, but it’s good for a cd or a small format zine or even a paperback book. A display tool that is highly refreshable. Right now I have a Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds cd on it, Gorilla.

My library cd for the car this week is The Best of The Wu-Tang Clan. I walk into the pot luck thirty years late and ask if there are any Cheetos. What can I say? Late bloomer. I heard a great conversation with RZA on the Smartless podcast and then bumped into this at the library. My favorite is Ol’ Dirty Bastard. When he makes his entrance its like someone launching over the back of the couch to watch the game, sticking a landing on the coffee table and scattering everyone’s lunch. Out of control but in control like a monk with crazy wisdom.
Minor triumph: I fixed our broken TV stand/credenza. A leg broke off of a cracked surround piece, so I found the closest board dimension I could at Home Depot and cut it down to size. I did not enter adulthood with a lot of “I can do this,” so I’ve had to learn it. And I’ve learned to do a lot of things but still, sometimes, in the simplest things, I have to re-boot my can-do.
I now live in a gerrymandered district, east of the traditional race boundary in KC, Troost Avenue. The geography was changing, but Republicans were purposeful about doubling down on it, to fracture the traditional base of our rep, Emmanuel Cleaver. He has been vocal about the gerrymandering effort, more than any other issue we’re facing now. So maybe it’s an opportunity for renewal—for him, or for someone who wants to do what Democrats need to do: engage rural counties in a strategic, down-to-earth way.
The past is never dead. It's not even past.
