8.25.25 MONDAYS ARE GREAT

Dear scissor misplacers, remote-control losers, and anyone who can’t find glasses on the top of their head,

It is Monday, and that means a collective attitude about the day among working people. People who work Monday through Friday, anyway. I’ve always been suspicious of the habit of declaring 1/7 of my adult time on the planet to be a drag. Today I will just pretend I am an actor in a movie about a universe in which this attitude is not, well universal.

I leveled a spot for our shed yesterday, using three gauges of gravel. I did not pour a slab for it as it is a cheap aluminum shed kit, not very permanent, and won’t hold much weight. My boombox was charged and I listened to letter to deej a cassette my friend Ed made and released in 2021. Deej is a Eugene nickname, first bestowed on me by my friend Jivan, A.k.a. Jeeves. I’ve never received a better letter and I am percolating on my long overdue reply in cassette form.

I also listened to Black Ticket Day by Ed Kuepper, Alone in a Crowd by Peter Wilde, and “The Cups Run Over” single by Petrified Max. I unpacked the box of parts and got the base pieces assembled – many many little sheet metal screws – but I can already tell if you just go slow and enjoy it, the parts pile will get smaller while the built part gets bigger. Putting the task off has been the worst part. Ain’t that how it is?

I read something in Diary of an Invasion Andrey kurkov’s first of three books about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The house and museum of artist Maria Prymachenko was hit with a shell and destroyed. Neighbors saved perhaps 10 of her paintings. I love them and want to learn more about her and these very high vibration paintings. She died in 1997 at the age of 88. He also writes about publishers struggling with a paper shortage. I suppose the musicians with their laptops and Focusrite inputs have it relatively easy. But the lug and load of a garage band must be impossible.

Not the most serious argument against war, but a valid one.
