KCMO

Dear Prog dogs, Yes Men, and Project 21-Twelvers,

My library cd this week is Pink Floyd’s Animals—not sure how I went 56.5 years in this universe without listening to it. I like the unlikely structure, a short acoustic opener and closer with 3 big berthas in between.

Growing up with a heavy dose of punk rock gave me the de rigeur snootiness toward Pink Floyd. But all snootiness is pretty corny now, isn’t it? Life’s short and there is fascism to resist and burritos to eat. It’s amazing music happens at all. Even back in the day I would listen to Dark Side Of The Moon between Die Kreuzen & DC3, while dissing prog rock. Like I even knew what it was.

Progressive rock dartboard, zone out and miss entirely

Dave S introduced me to the podcast Emil Amos’s Drifter’s Sympathy. Unique—thoughtful—a new corner of the universe and a gateway to Holy Suns music and a lot of new music in general, like Mannequin.

I’m 3/4 through James Lee Burke’s Don’t Forget Me Little Bessie, one of his best. I am looking forward to another visit with Dave and Clete next year.

Keep your monitor dusted and your chilis fresh, D-Day wasn’t for nothing,

Dan
