9.23.25 - ON THE MOYERS-FULCI SPECTRUM

Dear Sage Burners, Incense Gassers, and Greasy Garlic Fumigators,
I started Bill Moyers/Joseph Campbell’s The Power of Myth series last night on Night Flight streaming. It made some kind of crazy sense to see the series programmed shoulder-to-shoulder with Fulci movies, pop culture oddities, rock docs, and all manner of B-movie weirdness. Right in time for the intensity and violence of our current cultural moment. We are seeing the mythology of a murdered media personality spun up in real time. A minor gorgon in the temple of Mammon turned into an idol, an intellectual, a martyr and saint. What’s weaker than top down myth-making? Mythology lives in people—on the city bus.
Not unrelated, I listened to the Young Fresh Fellows/Minus 5 split double album Because We Hate You/Let The War Against Music Begin. An excellent commuting and pepper-picking soundtrack if there ever was one.
Habanero mayhem rules in Squier Park. Dark green poblanos run wild in the streets. With sweet italian peppers, jalapenos, and fresh tomatoes, a jar of store-bought sauce can transcend on a typical Tuesday.
Yours truly,
DJ
